Why Are New York City Streets Always Under Construction?
Between the five boroughs, there is some 6,300 miles of pavement. The city tries to repave about 1,000 miles every year. Add in pedestrians, cars and the myriad of things lurking beneath the road — gas lines, electric lines, sewer pipes and that subway thing — and you have a herculean task ahead of you.
